James (Jim) McCaughey is an expert in both adult and children's health systems, women and children's service lines, strategic partnerships/ joint ventures, and imaging/ ambulatory strategies and network development.
In Jim's role as an XCO Senior Partner, he brings deep expertise and proven healthcare experience drawn from his distinguished career at some of our nation's largest and most notable healthcare organizations. From 2007 to 2015, Jim served as the SVP of Strategy and Business Development at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford Health Care, based in Northern California. In this role, he developed organization-wide strategic plans, initiated and executed many strategic partnerships and joint ventures, and expanded the Stanford Children's physician organization and network. Before that, Jim was VP of Strategy & Business Development at Sutter Health's California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco, one of California's largest academic medical centers. Additionally, Jim currently serves as the CEO of Walnut Creek-based Bay Medical Management managing Radiology, Neonatology, and Pathology Medical Groups. Current activities include overseeing strategic expansion of Bay Imaging as well as management, practice and administrative services for a growing network of imaging centers and providers in Northern California.
As an XCO Senior Partner, in 2015 Jim supported the development of the Cedars Sinai Health Associates/ IPA Strategic Plan. In 2016, he was an expert partner for Children's Hospital of Los Angeles' Personalized Medicine Business Plan, the Keck Medicine of USC Women's & Children's Strategic Plan, and the USC Verdugo Hills NICU Development. In 2017, was an expert for the Bozeman Health Women's & Children's Care System Strategic Plan, and then continued as an activation partner in 2018 and 2019, working side-by-side with the organization's executive and physician leaders to successfully enter into key academic and regional partnerships. In 2020 and 2021, Jim served as the expert partner for another health system, Marshall Medical Center in Northern California, as they developed an important academic/ tertiary center partnership for its Cancer Program.
Through the years, Jim has served as a board member for the Ronald McDonald House in Stanford, the Hamilton Family and Pacific Vision Centers (both in San Francisco), and Hospice of Acadiana in Louisiana.
In 2014, Jim joined the Strategy Advantage team as an XCO Senior Partner. In this role, he is available as a 1:1 executive-to-executive partner for leaders changing healthcare.
